What I can do for you
I will do my best to:
1. Provide funding for both research and stipend (I won't take you on if I can't manage this).
2. Provide advice and contacts towards the advancement of your chosen career.
3. Help with the development and execution of a research project.
4. Critique grant proposals and manuscripts.
5. Schedule meetings (likely weekly) to discuss your progress.
6. Hold weekly lab meetings to discuss what folks in the lab are up to.

What will be expected of you
I will do my best to help you to become successful, but to reach your goals, I will expect you to:
1. Be in the lab and/or accessible for discussions/interactions with myself, other lab members, and your cohort.
2. Think and research independently, come up with your own questions, bring me new literature you’ve discovered.
3. Give talks and posters at national meetings.
4. Write publications.
5. Write grant proposals, attempt to fund part of your research.
6. Help fellow lab mates and learn from them in return.
7. Make sure all necessary forms are submitted (both for academic progress and research).
8. Maintain academic and professional honesty.
9. Be honest with yourself-- getting a degree in the sciences requires a lot of work, motivation, and an avid interest in what you are doing-- it is not always 9-5 job and can be difficult, frustrating, and exhausting. It can also be fun and inspiring-- I will do my best to help make it more the latter than the former.
How to apply
1. Send me an email, outlining why you are interested in working in my lab, what your current GPA is and what prior experience (if any) you have had. Also include a resume or curriculum vitae.
2. If I have space in the lab and funding, competitive students will be invited to participate in a telephone interview and may be invited to visit (if time and funding allow).
3. After the interview, if you are invited to join the lab as a student, you will then apply to the Graduate College, supplying official transcripts and 3 letters of recommendation.
4. After this point, the department will make a decision on your application, the decision will be forwarded to the graduate school, and they will make the final decision concerning your acceptance.
